AWRT SoCal Announces Participation in Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure®

Burbank, CA   (Thursday, November 5, 2009) --The American Women in Radio and Television Southern California (AWRT SoCal) Chapter announce its participation in the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure®, Sunday, March 14, 2010 at its new location at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, CA. AWRT SoCal is now accepting enrollments for its RACE2010 AWRT team and invite colleagues from radio, television, and allied fields to sign-up at http://www.komenlacounty.org/race2010/awrtsocal.

(Deal or No Deal), Jessica Kinni (Vh1's Rock of Love 2, Rock of Love Charm School) and recording artist, J*Smith are among the many 2010 supporters walking with Team AWRT SoCal to help raise awareness and funds to support local breast cancer services and national breast cancer research programs. A variety of activities are planned on Race day to accommodate all levels of interest and ability.


  


2009 Survivors Ceremony

"We are very excited to partner with Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure® to help create awareness and raise donations for this important program, " states Laura Behrman, President for the Southern California Chapter of AWRT. "It's all about working together so that one day we can live in a world without breast cancer."

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® is a celebration of courageous breast cancer survivors and a memorial for those who have lost their battle with the disease.  It raises awareness of the importance of early detection and provides funding for national breast cancer research and local breast cancer treatment.


Up to 75 percent of net proceeds generated by the Affiliate stay within the local community! The remaining income goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program to fund research. Over the past 13 years the Komen Los Angeles County Affiliate was able to fund over $7.5 million for education, screening and treatment services in Los Angeles County. The 2010 fundraising goal for the Los Angeles County Affiliate is 1.2 million dollars.

  
 
2009 Celebrity Hosts

Race for the Cure® t-shirts and bibs will be mailed to each team member that registers by March 1, 2010 at http://www.komenlacounty.org/race2010/awrtsocal, and the first 25 people that register for Team AWRT SoCal will receive an official 2010 Team AWRT SoCal Shirt generously donated by Alternative Apparel.
